Sigl, Bernd

Head of the Department for Medical Training Therapy (MTT)

One of the most important functions of muscles is the stabilisation and precise guidance of both joint partners across the entire movement amplitude. Segmental instabilities of the joints and weaknesses / shortening of the muscles lead to asymmetric pressure distribution on the individual joints, with compression or distraction. This fact causes pain in sensitive structures such as ligaments, nerves, cartilage, and the joint capsules.

The MTT Department can look back on more than 20 years’ experience in treating post-operative or pre-operative patients and is integrated in a multi-modal treatment conception at the ATOS Clinic.

The patients’ primary goal is to learn a strategic and efficient therapy programme. Thanks to long-standing specialisation the patients’ individual needs are taken into account applying scientifically proven criteria. During the past years, more than 25,000 patients have been treated.

Bernd Sigl, head of the MTT Department,  attended a sports boarding school with focus on track and field athletics starting in 1976. There, the former hammer thrower already early got to know the principles of competitive training and came into contact with elite athletes. After passing his school-leaving examination, he studied sports science at the German Sports University Cologne, passing the final exam in 1984.

In 1986, Mr. Sigl moved to Spain where he trained athletes in various disciplines and from various countries. As a trainer with comprehensive qualification, he taught courses in functional Hatha Yoga, autogenic training, stretching, spine exercises, special strength training, and various forms of cardio training.

In 1989, he joined the ATOS Clinic Munich. He gained comprehensive experience in the area of pre-operative and post-operative treatment of various joints and after various surgical interventions.

Mr. Sigl has been influenced by his many stays in the U.S.A., Switzerland, and Italy, from where he imported the special therapy system “Gyrotonic Expansion System” to Germany. In 1990, he passed his diploma in MedX Therapy at the Center for Exercise Science of  Florida State University.

Mr. Sigl is a founding member and member of the Executive Management Board of the international Society for Medical Strengthening Therapy (Gesellschaft für Medizinische Kräftigungstherapie, GMKT), for which he organises congresses and further education events. Since 2009, the education and further education centre of the GMKT has been situated at the ATOS Clinic Munich.
